Q. When was the ringneck pheasant first introduced in the US?

A.  The first successful introduction of pheasants into the United States is attributed to the consul general at Shanghai, China, one O.N. Denny. In 1880-81 he was able to get about two dozen of the native ring-neck pheasants into this country, equally divided between cocks and hens, and they were released in the Willamette Valley, in Oregon. Later they were introduced in Montana in 1895, in Washington about 1883, and in South Dakota in 1898.

The body becomes more silvery in colour and obscuring the spots and finger-marks, except on the gill-covers. They then become Smolts.
