Birds
Q. Which female, among the game birds, has a longer beak (bill) than the male?

A.  The American woodcock (Scolopax minor)

Q. Which one of the grouse species has earned the nickname of "Fool hen" ?

A.   The Spruce Grouse (Dendragapus canadensis) - often, when it is disturbed, spruce grouse will fly to a nearby branch or tree and observe the intruder sometimes allowing one to walk to a very close distance. This seemly tame behavior gave birth to their nickname" fool hen".

Mammals

Q. How fast can a cougar run, how high and how far can it jump?

A.   Cougar - can cover 100 mt. in 4.7 seconds (45mph) it can jump 18 feet high and it can jump a gap of 30 feet.

Fish

Q. What is the largest freshwater fish in US?

A.   Although some of our friends in Texas will swear we are wrong, the White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) is the largest species of freshwater fish. It has been known to reach 20' in length and 2000 lbs.in weight - although specimens of this size have not been recorded in recent years.

Q. Which one is the second largest freshwater fish in the US?

A.   Texas wins this time. Is is indeed the Alligator Gar (Atractosteus spatula). It can grow to sizes of over 8ft in length and over 300lbs.
