The Story

A resin-impregnated fly rod spends a year underwater!
The fly fisherman's heart sank with his cherished rod as it spiraled down in lazy circles to a 30-foot depth. He marked the spot and tried desperately to snag the lost treasure, but to no avail.

The following year he revisited the lake and happened upon a scuba diver enjoying his pastime. The fisherman told his tale and begged the diver's assistance, which he was only too happy to provide. After a lengthy descent, the diver surfaced with the fisherman's lost friend. The cork had perished. The guide wrapping too.

Only a resin-impregnated bamboo fly rod could withstand such a condition
But the blank? As straight, firm and responsive as the day it went down.
Had the fisherman's cane been of the varnished variety, the water would have found every molecular nick and fissure in the finish and penetrated the cane fibers. The diver would have recovered a bulged, warped blank -- suitable only for return to its watery grave.

But the resins did their job, and the rod still lives to drop streamers to waiting rainbows.
The spry action of the Justin Charles dances in your hands. It's quick, responsive and connects you to the fish as only bamboo can.

Impregnated resin technology ... from the old world to your world
During World War II, the British Spitfire ruled the air. German Messerschmitts couldn't compete against it. The Spitfire was too fast. Too agile. It could out-climb and out-maneuver the best Nazi fighter.

One reason for this was the Spitfire's solid interior framework. Its wooden components were resin-impregnated, which helped make them strong enough to withstand the forces of tremendous climbs, dives and turns.

The resins bonded the wood fibers and filled the voids that would have otherwise become sources of weakness. Plus, the impregnated wood repelled damaging environmental conditions, such as moisture, intense heat and brittle cold.

Today, this old-world technology has found a new home on the water, helping serious fly fishermen make perfect landings of another variety.
