Our Champions:

Traditional archery is a great sport whether a person is interested in target shooting or is involved in traditional bow hunting and is a family sport that can be shared by all members. Through traditional archery, young archers learn disciplines that will continue through their adult life. Longbow archery has a history that can be traced for hundreds of years. Over that time it has not changed significantly. The longbow simplicity may be part of its mystique and allure. While materials and construction methods continually change the longbow still remains just a stick and string! Okaw Valley Bows encourages all newcomers to the sport of traditional archery and hope that Black Rhino equipment will make their entry into the world of archery easy and enjoyable.

Much thought and work has gone into the design of the Black Rhino™ bows. These bows are specifically designed and handcrafted for kids, youth, ladies and those adults desiring a light draw weight or starter bow with models suitable for ages 3 years old and up.

The fine detail of the string nocks is highlighted with Action wood overlays to match the riser.

Black Rhino Bows have the recognizable rhino head trademark embossed on each bow. This registered trademark not only distinguishes Black Rhino bows from imitations, it's the mark of quality!

Handcrafted Quality
Black Rhino™ bows are made with hard maple as the core wood. Hard maple has been time proven as an outstanding bow wood. It also provides a nice contrast between the black fiberglass facing and backing. Gray action wood was chosen for the riser and matching tip overlays. Action wood is made from multiple strips of dyed maple glued together to form a riser block. Because of the lamination process, the riser is extremely strong and stable. The wavy grain in the riser created by these multiple laminations is extremely attractive. All of these materials come together to form a handsome bow that will withstand hard use. As a final touch the Black Rhino™ receives three coats of a diffused, high endurance finish, which will resist scratching and chipping. All Black Rhino™ bows are warranted for one year from date of purchase.

All bow models have a locator style handle for constancy of grip, contributing to accurate shooting. Attention to fade out construction is the same found in a custom bow giving a smooth transition from the limb to the riser.

Save money on the necessary items to get the young archer started in traditional archery by buying in kit form. This starter kit contains an M-35 Black Rhino bow with a "no-glove" installed on the bow string, six 1/4 inch diameter standard arrows with field tips, a logo arm guard, leather side quiver with belt loop and four heavy paper bullseye targets. All bows come complete with a B-50 flemish bow string, brass nock set and arrow rest and are available for right or left hand shooters. A right hand bow is held in the left hand and the string is pulled with the right hand. This is reversed for a left hand bow. All bow models have a locator grip for positive hand placement. Bow prices include federal excise taxes.

About us: Since the 1970's, Chuck and Patricia Jones of Okaw Valley Bows have produced fine custom bows for traditional archers. Over the years, meeting families at trade shows and archery competitions, they saw there was a need for good quality traditional archery equipment for the beginning archer.Their interest in traditional archery and the desire to introduce the younger generation (which included their grandchildren) to the sport influenced their interest in the Black Rhino longbow. This line of bows was developed, tested and then marketed in the year 2000 by Joe and Janice Furlong with great success. In 2003, Chuck and Pat began helping to build these fine bows. Since the early beginnings Black Rhino archery equipment has found homes not only in the U.S.A, where it is manufactured, but also throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Okaw Valley Bows, a family owned company, took over the operation of Black Rhino Bows in early 2005. Okaw Valley Bows is no longer making custom bows but devotes all of it’s resources to the Black Rhino line of archery equipment.
